AGA iTotal Control Oven, Which Naturally Works Over WiFi, Giving You An On-Screen Emulation Of Its Control Panel On Either Your Computer's Web Browser Or AGA's iOS And Android Apps Review

It appears that these days there is an app that allows your iPhone to do just about anything, even down to remotely operating your kitchen oven no matter where you are, as apparently AGA Rangemaster has selected Everything Everywhere to enable customers to talk to their AGA cooker via an iOS app, website or text and the mobile app controls the AGA cooker by way of an Orange SIM card being integrated into the oven, and as such can remotely control the new cooker via an iPhone, and an Android smartphone, or if you don;t own a smartphone, you can control the AGA iTotal cooker from a mobile phone via SMS text with commands such as all ovens off. he iTotal Control is set to sell for a hefty base-price of £10,090 (~$15,826) and you'll also be tied to a one-year contract with Orange for £5.95 (~$9) a month to enable the texting functionality. Commands such as “baking oven on” or “all ovens off”, will trigger the relevant actions and finally, if you're at work or round a friend's and fancy getting the oven on and pre-heated in time for your return home, you can also control your oven on your PC or laptop from a dedicated web portal.

If you grew up in the 70s, it was tempting to imagine the home of the future would be decidedly space age, with robots running everything and us sitting back doing very little. This, of course, isn't quite how things turned out - but things are getting decidedly more techie in the kitchen. AGA has taken things a step further by launching the AGA iTotal Control cooker. Owners of this innovative new range cooker will be able to control it wherever they are, using a mobile phone, smartphone, PC, laptop, iPad or tablet. The AGA iTotal Control cooker's three ovens (roasting, baking and simmering) are remotely operated, so you can ensure the cooker is warm and supper will be cooked at exactly the time you need it - wherever you are in the world. Essentially, you can sync your AGA at the touch of a button. Those AGA iTotal Control owners who don't have a smartphone, tablet or laptop can still take advantage of this technical revolution - simply by sending a text message to the AGA. The AGA can also be controlled via the web, so even if you have no phone signal you can use a wireless network to ensure the cooker is doing exactly what you want it to. The app can be downloaded from Apple's app store or the Android Marketplace. You will then be directed to a screen which mimics your cooker's control panel. This will show each of the ovens, as well as symbols for all ovens on and all zones off. You then simply use the touch-screen facility to select the option you require. A message will flash on the screen saying, for example, 'baking oven on activated'. You can also register on a dedicated website, which will allow you to control your AGA iTotal Control from a laptop, desktop PC or mobile device. The process from then on is exactly the same as when using the app Each AGA iTotal Control has a dedicated SIM card linked to a unique phone number. Once your cooker is installed, you should save this number into your phone. When you wish to operate it remotely, simply send by SMS text message one of the following commands:
  • Roasting oven on
  • Baking oven on
  • Simmering oven on
  • All ovens on
  • All zones off

Nissan e-NV200, A 100% Electric Compact Van Review

Nissan announced that it will build the e-NV200 small electric van starting in 2013, which designed to be used both as a passenger vehicle and delivery van, the e-NV200 will be built in at Nissan’s plant in Barcelona, Spain, following a €100 million ($126 million) investment there. The e-NV200 provides the functional and roomy interior space with innovative and practical features of the NV200, combined with the all electric drive train powering the Nissan Leaf and the electric motor on the e-NV200 is the same power as the Leaf's, as is the battery pack capacity, this melding of the Leaf with a cargo/commercial van can be thought of as a Leaf that can haul stuff or people. The e-NV200 also recently won the Environmental Award in the 2012 Fleet World Honors program and because taxi or delivery van service could require long daily driving range, which may seem incompatible with today's electric vehicles, but in truth is not the limitation one would think.  Nissan says it's putting $126 million into producing the new model, but so far it's keeping mum on other details.

Nissan announced that a 100% electric compact van, the e-NV200, will go into production at its Barcelona plant in the 2013 Financial Year. The new model will be based on the existing award-winning NV200 currently produced at the plant and will be an important and innovative addition to Nissan's global range of light commercial vehicles (LCV's). e-NV200 will become Nissan's second all-electric vehicle (EV) following the launch of the multi-award winning Nissan LEAF in 2010, underlining Nissan's long-term commitment to zero emission mobility. The new model, which represents €100 million investment by Nissan in Spain, is expected to create around 700 new jobs at the plant and throughout its local supplier base. As the sole producer of e-NV200, Barcelona will supply world markets highlighting the growing competitiveness of Nissan's Spanish industrial operations. Last week a new medium duty truck was allocated to Nissan's Avila Plant in central Spain. e-NV200 will provide both businesses and families with functional and roomy interior space and will retain the host of innovative and practical features of the current NV200 line up combined with the most advanced powertrain components of the Nissan LEAF. This will deliver a driving range similar to the Nissan LEAF on a single charge and similar performance, together with best in class running and maintenance costs.

Andy Palmer, Nissan Executive Vice President, said: "e-NV200 represents a genuine breakthrough in commercial vehicles and further underlines Nissan's leadership within the electric vehicle segment. The new model will offer all the spaciousness, versatility and practicality of a traditionally powered compact van, but with zero CO2 emission at the point of use and also provide an outstanding driving experience that is unique to EV's. Crucially, it will also offer class-leading running and maintenance costs, which makes it an exceptionally attractive proposition to both businesses and families." e-NV200 will also make a significant contribution to Nissan's aim of becoming the world's largest LCV manufacturer by 2016 as a key pillar of the Nissan Power 88 mid-term plan. Last year Nissan achieved an historic milestone of selling more than one million LCV's worldwide in a single year. Andy Palmer added: "e-NV200 represents a bold and innovative addition to our commercial vehicle range, which is already one of the broadest of any manufacturer. I would like to thank the Spanish and Catalonian Government for their continued support of Nissan in Spain, and congratulate the Barcelona workforce for earning the right to produce what will be an extremely important model for Nissan globally." The current NV200 line up has already sold around 100,000 units. Its popularity led it to be chosen as the next generation New York City 'Taxi of Tomorrow' following a rigorous selection process. Currently, intensive evaluations of prototype NV200-based electric vehicles are being carried out in Europe. Trials will continue in coming months in order to provide real-world feedback from the most demanding usage. Feedback will help Nissan to fulfill exact customer requirements ahead of the start of production expected in FY13.

Audi High Performance Wörthersee E-Bike, Which Uses A Smartphone For Its Electronic Control System Review

German automaker Audi will debut its prototype e-bike next week at Wörthersee in Carinthia, Austria. Audi’s e-bike promises to be highly advanced and versatile,  biker Julien Dupont and downhill specialist Petra Bernhard will not only demonstrate their stunts and biking skills, but will showcase the bike’s performance and capability as well. The Audi e-bike weighs 24 pounds and features a compact frame made of carbon fiber-reinforced polymer with a low center of gravity to make it superbly agile and the same carbon fiber-reinforced polymer is also used for the 26″ wheels which feature an innovative Audi ultra blade design with broad flat spokes for an optimized transmission of pedal power. The e-bike is also ideal for long rides, as the battery can also be easily be swapped out with a charged one and it come equipped with a smartphone that serves as the electronic control system of the bike, which is also used to operate five cycling modes: Pure, Pedelec, eGrip, Power Wheelie and Balanced Wheelie.

One of the highlights on the Audi stand is the bicycle technology concept known as the Audi e-bike Wörthersee, a sport bike that does not fit into any of the usual categories. It is neither a pedelec nor a conventional bike, but is best described as a high-end pedelec made by Audi for sport, fun and tricks. The Audi e-bike Wörthersee combines the Audi brand's principal competences design, ultra, connect and e-tron and explores the limits of what is technically feasible in terms of design, lightweight construction, networking and electric mobility. This show bike is futuristic at the very first glance, a bike for tomorrow and beyond. All its components, even the pedals, have been shaped by Audi's designers, for instance the 26-inch wheels made from CFRP that weigh only 600 grams (1.32 lb) each and have innovative large-area blade-pattern spokes. The Audi e-bike Wörthersee's ultra-light carbon-fiber frame weighs only 1,600 grams (3.53 lb). It makes use of bionic principles derived from nature. Material reinforcements are needed only at the points where loads actually occur. The swinging arm for the rear wheel is also made of CFRP. All in all, the Audi e-bike Wörthersee represents the full extent of the brand's expertise in ultra-lightweight design. The rear wheel is driven by a chain. The electric motor is a permanent magnet synchronous machine; it is located at the lowest point on the frame and drives the bottom bracket shaft directly. Maximum torque at the rear wheel is in the region of 250 Nm (184.39 lb-ft). Peak output from the electric motor is 2.3 kW, a new top value on the e-bike scene. The complete bicycle weighs only 21 kg (46.30 lb), equivalent to a power-weight ratio of 9 kg (19.84 lb) per kilowatt, or 7 kg (15.43 lb) per horsepower, another record-breaking value. The lithium-ion battery is housed in the frame; it weighs about 5 kg (11.02 lb) and operates at a voltage of 48 V. Its capacity is 530 Wh and it can be fully recharged from a 230 V supply in two and a half hours. As an alternative it can be easily detached from the bike and replaced by a recharged battery.

The rider of the Audi e-bike Wörthersee can choose between five programs; these either support use of the pedals or permit electric-only travel. In the Pure mode the rider only propels the bike by means of the pedals. In the 'Pedelec' mode the rider is assisted by the electric motor; a top speed of up to 80 km/h (50 mph) can be reached and the action radius is between 50 and 70 kilometers (31 and 44 miles). In the eGrip program the Audi e-bike Wörthersee can be ridden with the electric motor providing all the necessary power; in this case at speeds up to 50 km/h (31 mph). The rider controls the power output from the electric motor at a twistgrip and can configure it at the on-board computer. In Wheelie mode the power flow is electronically controlled in order to assist the rider when the front wheel is in the air. Alternative operating modes are available and can be selected by smartphone or directly at the e-bike: either Power Wheelie with an adjustable wheelie angle for less skilled riders or Balanced Wheelie for those with more experience. In the latter mode the rider's balance is maintained electronically: as his or her weight is displaced forward or back, this is counteracted by either braking or accelerating the electric motor. In this way the rider can influence the speed when riding on the rear wheel only by shifting his or her weight. Leaning forward speeds up the bike, leaning back slows it down. If the rider wants to use the pedals and maintain a constant power input, the training mode can be chosen. The electric motor then makes good the extra power needed when riding into the wind or up a hill, so that the rider's performance can be kept constant for training purposes. The Audi e-bike Wörthersee has a varied specification. The nine-speed hydraulically actuated gear shift has a very rapid sequential action, similar to the R tronic transmission in an Audi R8. The two disk brakes are also applied hydraulically. Seat height can be continuously adjusted at a handlebar control, even while the bike is being ridden. The front fork uses the more complex 'upside-down' principle; it is air-sprung, with 130 mm (5.12 in) of travel. LEDs are used for powerful lighting: the front light is integrated into the handlebar, the rear light into the seat. The on-board computer is located in the frame top tube and operated using a touchscreen. Among the functions it provides are riding mode selection, recording trick sequences and adjustment of various e-bike functions such as electric pedaling assistance and lighting. The display shows road speed, distance covered, state of battery charge, energy consumption and slope angle at any given moment. The rider's smartphone communicates by WLAN with the bike's computer. The antenna is integrated into the front brake line. To ride the bike, the immobilizer is deactivated at the smartphone; the bike is then ready for use. In addition, by way of the interface between the bike's computer and the smartphone, video images recorded while riding or even complete trick sequences can be transmitted to the Internet or the trainer. Every trick performed successfully qualifies for success points. As the number of points increases, the rider is rewarded and at the same time the challenge level rises. The total Internet ranking can be compared with friends or other riders. The rider can locate them by way of Facebook entries that can be shown on the Audi e-bike Wörthersee's display.
