With 30x optical zoom, incredible low light performance, full 1080x60p HD movie capabilities, and innovative features like, hi-speed linear auto focus, 3D image capabilities, and backlight correction to catch even the smallest details in high contrast shots, the Sony DSC-HX100V will renew your passion for photography. The DSC-HX100V features a 16.2 megapixel Exmor R CMOS image sensor that brings out the full resolving power of the camera’s Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonar lens to deliver extremely fast speed, high resolution, and stunning low-light sensitivity with improved image clarity and drastically reduced grain. In addition, the combined Exmor R CMOS sensor and BIONZ image processor delivers extremely fast 10fps, Anti Motion Blur, Hand-held Twilight and 1080i movie modes. The high-performance Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonar T lens with 30x optical zoom lens brings distant subjects closer for video recording as well as for outdoor, sports, and travel photos, and Close Focus shoots close-ups up within a ½-inch of the subject. A 27mm equivalent wide-angle lens allows you to take wider shots of the scene or group in crowded spaces. 3.0-inch XtraFine LCD with TruBlack technology gives you deeper blacks and more color in your display, all while being thinner than most LCDs. Record crystal clear movies at the highest resolution available with capabilities for 60p in 1080 Full HD. This provides stunning, fast motion video with less distortion for playback on your Blu-ray Disc players, Sony PlayStation systems and compatible PCs and HDTVs.

Don’t miss a single detail in high contrast shots. The built in backlight correction analyzes the image and automatically adjusts accordingly to give you a perfectly lit shot. Backlight Correction HDR helps correct for this by taking three pictures at different exposure settings and processing the best elements of each into a single image for more natural looking shots. Life moves fast, your camera’s focus needs to move just as fast. The Hi-speed linear focus achieves dramatically clearer images with an auto focus that moves just as fast as your life. Produce awe-inspiring images with 3D still image and 3D Sweep Panorama capabilities. Images will take on a new dimension of creative capabilities for viewing the world in a whole new way. With high resolution iSweep Panorama mode just press the shutter, pan the landscape and let the camera do the rest. It automatically links together each frame to produce a high resolution panoramic image providing the ability to zoom in on small details. This model even detects faces and moving subjects to stitch intelligently different widths to help avoid subject distortion. DSLR photographs are often beautiful because they blur the background, putting the emphasis on the subject. Now our point-and-shoot cameras can deliver this signature DSLR benefit. The system takes two shots, identifies the background and applies a defocused background keeping the subject crisp and clear. et cleaner, more dynamic pictures and fewer missed shots. The camera automatically recognizes the correct scene mode, then quickly shoots and combines up to six shots to produce images with greater clarity, optimum dynamic range using backlight correction HDR technology and lower image noise using 6 shots layering technology. Superior Auto intelligently detects 33 scenes for still images and 44 scenes for movies, making it easy to get the best shot.

Capturing the right shot at the right moment has never been so easy. Digital zoom brings the action up close to get that perfect shot, every time. Portrait subjects will love the results. Soft Skin mode recognizes skin tones and reduces the appearance of blemishes and wrinkles without affecting the rest of the shot. Conventional point-and-shoot camera flash shots just don't capture colors the way the eye sees them. Natural Flash mode takes a reference shot without flash and then uses that reference to correct the color, for far more lifelike images. The High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) is a compact audio/video connector interface for transmitting uncompressed digital streams. HDMI connects digital audio/video sources such as a compatible camcorder, Blu-ray Disc player, a personal computer, a video game console, or an AV receiver to a compatible digital audio device and/or video monitor such as a digital television (DTV). Easily connect your Cyber-shot camera via HDMI cable (sold separately) to any compatible HDMI device to easily enjoy and upload content. Smile Shutter technology captures a smile the moment it happens. Simply press the Smile Shutter button and the camera does the rest. You can also select adult and child priority and indicate the degree of Smile Detection sensitivity. Intelligent Scene Recognition can be used together with Smile Shutter mode. This means that beautiful smiles can be captured with settings optimized for the particular scene, even in difficult conditions such as twilight and backlighting.

Sony’s Face Detection technology can automatically distinguish between children and adults. Face Detection technology detects up to eight individual faces and adjusts flash, focus, exposure, and white balance to help deliver crisp, properly lit images of family and friends. Motion Detection, along with Face Motion Detection adjusts ISO sensitivity and increases the shutter speed when movement is detected, reducing blur in moving subjects and faces. It’s frustrating to capture the perfect shot, only to review it later and discover subjects blinked during the photo. When the camera is set to Soft Snap, the Anti-blink function captures two images, recording only the photo with less squinting or blinking. If a blink is detected in other shooting modes, a warning will be displayed after you take the shot. In Sweep Multi Angle mode, the camera takes 15 images at different angles as it sweeps across the scene. By tilting the camera during playback, the camera’s Gyro Sensor detects motion and displays the image in a 3D-like view on the camera’s LCD. Capture cleaner and sharper images in low light for non landscape shots. When set in Anti-motion Blur Mode, the DSC-HX100V captures six images in a fraction of a second with higher shutter speed and combines the data from all six to create a single image of extraordinary detail and dramatically reduce subject blur, beyond the capability of traditional cameras. TransferJet technology, developed by Sony and advanced and promoted by a consortium of 18 other companies, allows you to transfer up to ten files between two TransferJet enabled devices just by touching their TransferJet logos together, without the hassle of hunting for cables or the complication of pairing. Sony Picture Motion Browser software offers a simple, intuitive way to transfer, sort, and view your video and still images on your compatible PC. In addition, multiple output options let you burn your memories to DVD using an external DVD burning device (sold separately), as well as take advantage of one click upload to a number of popular video and photo sharing sites (such as Facebook and Sony’s Personal Space site). With the pre-installed Picture Motion Browser (PMB) Portable software the DSC-HX100V makes it easy to pre-select videos and images in the camera and conveniently upload them from the camera to a compatible PC and popular Internet sharing sites without the need for any additional software or install.

This 14-incher will be available in the US and Canada November 1 and will start at $1,000, a price that puts it in direct competition with the likes of the HP Envy 14 and Sony VAIO SA series.

The latest in a series of thin-and-powerful solutions from Dell that include thin laptops, desktops and accessories, the XPS 14z delivers performance that impresses and design that inspires. And starting at just 4.36 poundsi, less than an inch thin, and up to six hours, 42 minutes of battery lifeii, it also has the easy portability of a 13-inch laptop. The XPS 14z's uncompromising performance helps busy professionals achieve their personal and professional pursuits and look good while doing it. The XPS 14z is visually striking, with a slim, yet powerful form synonymous with innovation. Installing MeeGo on your Netbook Linux and Mac Instruction [MeeGo Guide]

Linux developers
Follow the steps on this page for downloads and installing MeeGo on your Netbook and you'll be ready to go mobile!
Windows Instructions Use a Windows app to install the MeeGo OS on your currently Windows OS computer.

Overview

Steps for loading the MeeGo live image on your netbook, nettop, or PC:
  1. Download the latest live image.
  2. Byte-copy the image to a USB drive.
  3. Boot the image on your netbook, nettop, or PC.

System Requirements

  • CPU: Intel Atom or Intel Core 2 CPU (support for SSSE3)
Note: MeeGo will not work on non-SSSE3 CPUs
  • Platforms with the GMA-500, Nvidia, or ATI graphics chipsets are not supported
  • A tested netbook or nettop platform

About Live Images

The MeeGo live image is designed to be used with a USB drive. A netbook or PC can be booted from the USB drive without modifying its hard drive or configuration. This lets you test drive an image before installing it. When you are done, just remove the USB drive and reboot. If you like what you see, you can then install MeeGo from the same live image.
1 Download the Live Image
The live image is available from the netbook downloads page. Save the image to a known location, so you can access it in step 2.
2 Byte-copy the image to a USB drive
You will need a USB drive with at least the capacity of the downloaded image. Note: A byte-exact copy of the image must be placed on the USB drive. It is not sufficient to simply copy the image file to the drive. Be aware that the contents of the USB drive will be completely erased.
Linux Instructions
Be sure the USB drive is unmounted before proceeding. Some Linux distributions auto mount the USB drive when it is inserted, which can cause corruption when writing.
# umount <usb-drive>
Use either of these two methods:
  • Image Writer (recommended, requires Python >=2.4)
Image Writer is a small python executable script that detects your USB drive and writes the image to it. The advantage of using image writer is that it will not inadvertently overwrite your system hard drive. Download Image Writer
    # cd <directory with downloaded image-writer file>
    # chmod a+x ./image-writer
    # ./image-writer <image file>
  • Use 'dd' from the command-line
Caution: 'dd' will overwrite any destination including your system hard disk. Make sure you know the correct value of <usb drive> before proceeding.
    # dd bs=4096 if=<image file> of=<usb drive>
Proceed to Step 3: Boot the image
Windows Instructions
There is a simple way to put the MeeGo image on a USB drive.
  1. Download the Win32DiskImager.exe program:
    https://launchpad.net/win32-image-writer/+download (zip file)
  2. Unzip the file and extract the contents to a known directory
  3. Run W32DiskImager.exe
  4. Select the MeeGo image file (.img)
  5. Select the drive letter which corresponds to the USB key
  6. Click the "Write" button to byte-copy the image to the USB drive.
Proceed to Step 3: Boot the image
Mac OS X Instructions
Be sure the USB drive is unmounted before proceeding. OS X auto mounts the USB drive when it is inserted, which can cause corruption when writing. You can press the eject icon in Finder or drag the USB icon to the trash. Use this method (thanks to Many Ayromlou for the instructions):
  1. Open a Terminal (Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal)
  2. Run
    diskutil list
to get the current list of devices
  3. Insert your flash media
  4. Run
    diskutil list
again and determine the device node assigned to your flash media (for example /dev/disk2)
  5. Run
    diskutil unmountDisk /dev/diskN
(replace N with the disk number from the last command; in the previous example, N would be 2)
  6. Run
    sudo dd if=/path/to/downloaded.img of=/dev/diskN bs=1m
(replace /path/to/downloaded.img with the place you downloaded the image. You'll need your password for this.
  7. Run
    diskutil eject /dev/diskN
(where N is the number we found above) and remove your flash media when the command completes
  8. You're done! Proceed to Step 3: Boot the image
3 Boot the image on your netbook, nettop, or PC
Insert the USB drive into your netbook, nettop, or PC and reboot. Make sure that the boot order tries the USB drive first.

Windows Instructions

If your computer does not have the MeeGo OS installed and you want to replace an existing Windows operating system with the MeeGo OS, follow the instructions on this page.
Notes:
  • There may be image writer tools for other operating systems available, as well.
  • If you are a Linux developer, you may prefer to use these instructions for Linux.

Getting Ready

System Requirements
  • CPU: Intel Atom or Intel Core 2 CPU (support for SSSE3)
Note: MeeGo will not work on non-SSSE3 CPUs
  • Platforms with the GMA-500, Nvidia, or ATI Graphics chipset are not supported.
  • Tested netbook and nettop platforms
Follow the Processes on This Page Completely and in Order
To make the overall procedure of downloading and installing the image easier to follow, the procedure is broken down into smaller processes, but you must perform all of the processes below completely and in the order they are presented to replace your computer’s current OS with the MeeGo OS.
Notes:
  • When you install MeeGo OS, all programs and any other content that exists on the computer you are installing onto will be permanently deleted.
  • Before you installing the MeeGo OS on your computer, make sure you test it. Testing instructions are provided below in process D, Testing the MeeGo OS Image on Your Computer Before You Install It.
Note: Testing does not work on some computers, such as Sony netbooks.
  • The computer you are installing the MeeGo OS onto must have a USB port.
  • You will need to use a computer to download the image file and save it to a USB drive, even if the device you will be installing the MeeGo OS on is not a computer.

A. Download the Image Writer for Windows Tool

Image Writer for Windows is a Windows program that saves and restores images from removable drives, such as a USB drive, which is what you’ll need to install the MeeGo OS. You can use Image Writer for Windows to write a boot image to a USB drive, which you’ll be able to use to install the MeeGo OS onto your computer or device.
  1. Open the website for the Image Writer tool for Windows.

D. Testing the MeeGo OS Image on Your Computer Before You Install It

Before you install the MeeGo OS on your computer, deleting all existing content on that computer, you should test to make sure MeeGo will work on that computer.
Note: Testing does not work on some computers, such as Sony netbooks.
  1. Turn off the computer or device on which you are going to install the MeeGo OS.
  2. Insert the USB drive into a USB port on that computer or device.
  3. Turn the computer or device on.
  4. As soon as you turn on that computer or device, rapidly and repeatedly press the key on your computer's keyboard that allows you to access the “Boot Menu”, a screen that lets you select, using your up and down arrow keys on the computer’s keyboard, which drive you want to boot your computer from.
Note: The key that allows you to access the boot menu varies by computer. For some it's the F12 key, for others it's Esc, 0, F9, or possibly something else. If none of those work, refer to your computer's documentation.
  5. Use your down arrow to select USB and press Enter on your keyboard.
  6. In the Welcome to MeeGo! screen, use the down arrow to select Boot MeeGo and press Enter on your keyboard.
  7. If the MeeGo Myzone screen appears, MeeGo will work on your system.

MeeGo Download

MeeGo 1.0 currently requires:
  • CPU: 32 bit Intel Atom or Intel Core 2 CPU (support for SSSE3)
    • Note: MeeGo will not work on non-SSSE3 CPUs
  • A compatible Intel graphics chipset. GMA-500, Nvidia, and ATI chipsets are not supported. See User:Vgrade for GMA500 instructions.
Note: Additional hardware configurations will be supported in updates / future revisions. See below for an explanation of why MeeGo doesn't run on your hardware.
We have a list of netbooks that are officially supported and that other users have been testing.
We recommend that you fully test MeeGo without disrupting your existing operating system by running it directly off of a thumb as described in the install guide.
Note: You may still find that some wireless cards or other components in your netbook are not be supported in this 1.0 release. Please report any issues in the netbook section of the forum, and we'll try to get them fixed as soon as possible.
