JVC Rugged ADIXXION Camcorder Review

JVC enters action cam market with rugged Adixxion camcorder and the waterproof, shockproof, dustproof, and freezeproof little camera does everything expected for the category and throws in Wi-Fi for good measure. Leveraging its decades-long digital imaging prowess evidenced in models like the ProHD cams and GC-PX10 hybrid, the company says that its new small and lightweight video recorder includes a range of features that leaves the competition behind. Highlights include four levels of rugged protection, built-in Wi-Fi, a Super Wide lens, and Full HD video recording, the GC-XA1 has been waterproofed to a depth of 16.4 feet (5 m), is able to withstand a fall from 6.5 feet (2 m), and is both dust- and freeze-proof. It's a collection of all-round ruggedness that JVC is calling Quad Proof and means that the camcorder can record 1920 x 1080/30p video at 30 frames per second (fps) to MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 format, or 60 fps at 720p, in a variety of action scenarios without the need for optional housing to protect it from the elements. Also on-board is WiFi and a 1.5-inch LCD monitor and the amcorder can do HD video, five megapixel stills and has 5x digital zoom.

A new "action camera" announced by JVC offers unmatched versatility right out of the box, with standard features that have JVC's new GC-XA1 ADIXXION camcorder ready to capture the fun in most any situation. The new JVC GC-XA1 ADIXXION ups the ante in the action camera category by offering a range of features and capabilities that outpace competing models. Truly pocket-sized and weighing barely a quarter pound, ADIXXION is waterproof to a depth of five meters (16.4 feet), shockproof to withstand a fall from two meters (6.5 feet), dustproof and freeze-proof, all without the need for a separate housing. In addition, ADIXXION includes built-in Wi-Fi, 1.5-inch LCD monitor, image stabilizer and offers full HD 1920×1080/30p and 1280×720/60p recording. With the introduction of ADIXXION, JVC brings its decades-long expertise in digital imaging to a category that has seen growing popularity recently as more people want to capture their snowboarding, surfing, mountain biking or just about any other activity, whether on the slopes or with the family at the waterpark. What JVC brings to the category is a camera that comes loaded with standard features compared to competing models and one that can tackle a wide range of activities right out of the box with no need for an optional housing. ADIXXION comes with two mounts – a goggle mount and a flexible mount suitable for a wide range of applications, including use on a helmet or surfboard. A wide range of optional accessories are available, including specialized mounts. In addition to its water/shock/dust/freeze-proof design – what JVC dubs "Quad Proof" – ADIXXION features a 1.5-inch LCD monitor built into the side of the camera so it's easy to check footage in the field without the extra weight and bulk of an external monitor. The camera body features a scratch-resistant rubber texture, and there are two standard tripod sockets for easy mounting in a variety of locations. It weighs a mere 0.28 lbs. (126 grams). Built-in Wi-Fi opens up a range of possibilities, including wireless connection to a smartphone that can be used to monitor the image – great for framing the shot when the camera is mounted on a helmet or other location where the user can't see the LCD. Wi-Fi also makes it possible to send images live to a PC or mobile hotspot, or transfer data to a PC for sharing via social networks. What's more, ADIXXION can stream live high definition video in real time to USTREAM without a PC. Android and iOS apps are available for free download, while Wi-Video PC software is supplied with the camera. Video recording resolutions range from Full HD to WVGA, and all video is recorded as QuickTime-compatible MP4 files that can be easily viewed on computers and smartphones. Digital image stabilization minimizes camera shake, and the camera includes rolling shutter cancellation that corrects the image skewing that can occur with CMOS image sensors. The result is distortion-free images, even during fast-moving scenes. A built-in HDMI terminal allows easy connection to HDTVs. Other features include ultra-wide lens, time lapse recording at intervals of 1 or 5 seconds, digital 5x zoom, 5 megapixel stills, white balance (auto/manual), exposure (auto), and self-timer functions. The GC-XA1 comes with a goggle mount, flexible mount, two lens protection covers, a USB cable and battery. A wide variety of optional accessories is available, including roll bar and handle bar mounts. The JVC GC-XA1 ADIXXION action camera will be available in late summer for $349.95.

LG Optimus Vu Tablet-Like Viewing With Smartphone Portability Device Review

LG's latest smartphone/tablet, the Optimus Vu, certainly looks familiar. While it has a 5-inch IPS display with a 4:3 aspect ratio, it's outward appearance shares much in common with recently announced Prada phone by LG 3.0 handset and you'll be hard-pressed to tell the difference between both smartphones, but the Optimus Vu's 4:3 display means the handset is wider than the Prada. LG Optimus Vu offer a much clearer look at its 4x3 aspect ratio, 1024x768 res, stylus-friendly 5-inch IPS LCD display, while the official specs confirm rumors it would pack a 1.5GHz dual core CPU, 8MP camera, LTE, 2080mAh battery and Android 2.3 in a slim 8.5mm thick frame, an upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich is promised within three months of its launch, currently scheduled for March on Korean carriers SK Telecom and LG+. It looks like LG's Optimus Vu will be a direct competitor to Samsung's Galaxy Note, especially since both devices are about the same size and the Galaxy Note seems to have the LG phone/tablet beat in terms of battery life--it has a 2,500mAh battery while the Optimus Vu can only has 2,080mAh.

LG unveiled one of the most anticipated LTE devices, the Optimus Vu:. Equipped with LG's advanced LTE and IPS display technology, the Optimus Vu: offers a unique combination of tablet-like viewing with smartphone portability. Running on a powerful 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 32GM internal memory and a large 2,080 mAh battery, the Optimus Vu: is a multimedia lover's dream device."The Optimus Vu: was designed to maximize what customers could do with a smart-phone," said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Mobile Communications Company. "By offering an optimal 4:3 ratio viewing experience, 5-inch display combined with superfast LTE technology, Optimus Vu: is just one example of what we can achieve when we combine our best technology with customer needs." The large 5-inch display with bright 4:3 aspect ratio makes viewing documents, books, internet and multimedia contents easier and more comfortable. The 4:3 aspect ratio is optimized for viewing to grasp more at a glance and note taking to increase productivity in everyday life. Moreover, IPS display realizes every color in its natural state for the best viewing experience even under bright sunlight. Backed by unparalleled speed and performance from LG's advanced LTE technology, the Optimus Vu: boasts unmatched productivity.

Its unique built-in QuickClip hotkey allows users to conveniently capture screenshots and memos with a single push. Jotting notes is also possible with a finger or with the dedicated Rubberdium pen. Among many productive apps installed in the Optimus Vu:, the included Polaris Office allows users to open any document, spreadsheet or presentation while on the go. At only 8.5mm, the Optimus Vu: is the slimmest among all LTE phones currently on the market and is perfectly suited for a hand and fits comfortably in a jacket pocket. Despite the large 2,080mAh battery, the Optimus Vu: adopts LG's exclusive floating mass technology to appear slimmer than its actual dimensions. In addition to HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) and DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance), Optimus Vu: comes with 32GB memory and an 8-megapixel camera. While it will initially launch running Android 2.3 Gingerbread, an update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is already in the works. The Optimus Vu: will be introduced in Korea in March. Acer 27-inch HR274H 1080p 3D LED-Backlit LCD Display Review

The Acer HR274H is a 27-inch 1080p 3D display with a trick up its sleeve and promises to do 2D-to-3D conversion on the fly. This monitor will take a fair amount of viewings at home before you make any returns on your initial investment and stereoscopic 3D is now coming to your homes in a different manner, which is that of a computer monitor. A solitary HDMI cable will be the channel where video is carried from a console, Blu-ray player, or set-top box to the monitor itself and you will need to wear a pair of polarized, passive glasses in order to check out the 3D action, which is more affordable compared to the standard issue battery-powered active glasses. The monitor's specs are otherwise decidedly ordinary for the rather high $599 price tag and you'll just get a TN panel with a standard 1920 x 1080 resolution.

Acer 27-inch HR274H 1080p 3D LED-Backlit LCD Display
Acer America Corp., the number one provider of 3D displays worldwide introduced the Acer HR274H, a 27-inch 3D monitor featuring new advances in 3D technology. Featuring Acer's innovative chip-based solution, the new monitor can convert any 2D content to 3D, allowing anyone to watch their favorite movies, videos, photos and games in 3D. With crystal clear 1920 x 1080 resolution, it is the ideal monitor for advanced 1080p full HD gaming on a PC, Blu-ray Disc console gaming, widescreen movie playback and multimedia and productivity applications. "The Acer HR274H delivers the highest level of realism available for fans of 3D games, TV programming, movies and photos," said Chris White, senior director of product marketing, Acer America. "Every detail is so clear, bright and rich in color, immersing yourself in your favorite game or movie has never been so utterly exhilarating." Through a single HDMI cable connection, the HR274H monitor easily connects to any 3D-enabled PC, Blu-ray player, game console, cable set top box or camera. 3D enthusiasts can then enjoy a broad selection of high-quality 3D content, including more than 550 full-HD 1080p 3D games, more than 100 Blu-ray 3D movies and thousands of 3D videos and photos from YouTube and 3DVisionLive.com. 3D for Everyone Acer's innovate chip based solution easily converts any 2D content to 3D in real time. There is no extra software required; the feature only needs to be enabled via the on-screen-display. This allows regular movies and traditional photos and videos to be enjoyed in a completely new way. In addition, it works with any graphics card, so popular PC games can now be viewed in eye-popping 3D.

Acer includes a set of polarized glasses that deliver vibrant 3D imagery without straining the eyes. In addition, the glasses do not require batteries and are made of composite materials for a lightweight comfortable fit, which makes viewing 3D content more convenient and comfortable than ever before. Film-patterned retarder (FPR) technology in the Acer display and glasses enable a flicker-free 3D viewing experience. This reduces eye strain, fatigue, and headaches by separating left/right images so only one image reaches the left or right lens at a time. It also eliminates ghosting, since the display and glasses don't need to synchronize. Slightly larger than first generation 3D glasses, they provide a wider viewing area and increased external light blocking. High quality moving images and a crystal clear viewing experience is provided through 2ms response times and an impressive 100 million:1 contrast ratio. Eco-Friendly The Acer HR274H monitor uses LED backlight technology, minimizing environmental impact while offering superior performance and durability. White LEDs do not contain the toxic substance mercury, making them safer for the environment. They also consume less power and are more durable than CCFL lamps, resulting in big savings. It is also RoHS compliant, ENERGY STAR certified and is packaged in recyclable materials. Pricing and Availability The 27-inch Acer HR274H 3D LCD is available for U.S. customers at leading retailers with an MSRP of $599.

The product isn't really all that big, what with its screen size of 23 inches, although one could say that it is still larger than so-called mainstream monitors.
Nevertheless, it does not really compare to HDTVs of 40 inches or more, although it does have a lower price and, being a monitor and not a TV, a different role.

Finally, to work with a great variety of motherboards and graphics cards, AOC gave the panel D-Sub, DVI and HDMI connectors
The AOC e2352Phz monitor will be available for €249 / £259 as from mid-July 2011
